Warm and safe homes in Fishwick

Tackling poor insulation and unsafe living conditions

In 2013, 360 homes in Fishwick received external insulation as part of a national energy scheme. But poor work left many properties colder and damp, with lasting effects. So National Energy Action stepped in.

Imagine not knowing if you’ll be able to heat your home or cook a hot dinner

Will you give the warmth this winter?

For millions of households struggling to keep their house warm, this is a time of stress, anxiety and discomfort.

It’s wearing your coat inside, hoping your gas and electricity doesn’t get cut off.  It’s sitting in the dark while your windows frost up, struggling to dry your clothes inside. But together we can make a difference.

What is fuel poverty?

Understanding the scale of Fuel Poverty in the UK

Energy prices remain sky high since the energy crisis began in October 2021.

Millions of households are in fuel poverty according to the Low Income Low Energy Efficiency (LILLE) indicator. It means they:

  • live in a property with an energy performance rating of Band D or below (meaning the home is not energy-efficient), and

  • They need to pay more than 10% of their income to heat their home comfortably.

Fuel poverty can seriously affect health and wellbeing, especially for children, older people, and those with long-term illnesses. Cold, damp homes can worsen breathing problems, increase stress, and make everyday life much harder.
