Together with frontline practitioners, companies, regulators and governments, National Energy Action works to support vulnerable clients, raise awareness and achieve enduring change.
What is fuel poverty?
Understanding the scale of Fuel Poverty in the UK
Energy prices remain sky high since the energy crisis began in October 2021.
Millions of households are in fuel poverty according to the Low Income Low Energy Efficiency (LILLE) indicator. It means they:
-
live in a property with an energy performance rating of Band D or below (meaning the home is not energy-efficient), and
-
They need to pay more than 10% of their income to heat their home comfortably.
Fuel poverty can seriously affect health and wellbeing, especially for children, older people, and those with long-term illnesses. Cold, damp homes can worsen breathing problems, increase stress, and make everyday life much harder.
