Our founding as Neighbourhood Energy Action
The Durham University students who founded Neighbourhood Energy Action back in 1981 probably didn’t imagine the charity would still be so needed many years later. They likely hoped fuel poverty wouldn’t continue to be a problem a quarter of the way through the 21st Century. Since our founding, National Energy Action’s impact in the fuel poverty space has been significant.

How we help
For over four decades, we’ve supported people through energy crises, policy changes, and economic hardship. With deep roots in communities and partnerships across sectors, we remain focused on practical solutions, lived experience, and driving real impact.
-
Our network opens doors to new partnership opportunities
Our members work with hundreds of organisations to exchange ideas, overcome challenges, and celebrate success. They receive invitations to all our events, including regional Fuel Poverty Forums, and we prioritise them in our partnership activities.
-
Our members have exclusive access to our sector-leading analysis
Whatever your focus, we provide expert insights, briefings, and events on government programmes, public health, and energy reform. Members receive our quarterly Fuel Poverty Focus magazine, monthly e-newsletter, and updates from Westminster to local initiatives.
-
Our members actively shape our policy responses and advocacy efforts
National Energy Action is a fiercely independent charity, but we are determined to leverage the insights and experiences of our members to achieve the best possible outcomes for people experiencing fuel poverty.
Your Winter Warmth Support Pack was a life-saving for me. All the items were very essential to me and very helpful to this day. The Wearable Blanket is my favourite, it’s so big, fluffy and comfortable . I feel like a Bear!’
