Network Suppliers

Fair, efficient, and socially responsible energy services

National Energy Action has a strong background of working collaboratively with network suppliers. With over four decades of experiences, we provide expert consultancy support to help network suppliers deliver fair, efficient, and socially responsible energy services.

Our insights have informed government policy, regulatory reform, and network innovation projects, helping energy companies and policymakers understand the needs of vulnerable customers, shape effective programmes, and measure impact with confidence.

Within the current price control, we have:

  • Worked closely with both Distribution Network Operators (DNO) and Gas Distribution Networks (GDN) to provide direct support to vulnerable customers while helping to meet regulatory commitments under RIIO-ED2 and RIIO-GD3.
  • Worked with Ofgem to expand the incentive system to provide greater incentives to focus on vulnerability.
  • Extended the benefits of innovation programmes to low income and vulnerable consumers, making innovation initiatives such as the Network Innovation Allowance (NIA) more inclusive and accelerating the transition to a fair and inclusive net zero energy system.

Evidence-based Policy Insight

We provide rigorous analysis on how market developments and regulatory changes affect vulnerable consumers. As an impartial, non-profit organisation, our data-driven insights help networks anticipate risks, identify opportunities, and design initiatives that deliver measurable social impact.

Research and Evaluation

Our team conducts bespoke research projects, programme evaluations, and customer insight studies. We combine robust quantitative methods with lived-experience perspectives, enabling you to demonstrate value for money and regulatory alignment in your innovation and customer support activities.

Strategic Collaboration and Partnership Development

We believe progress happens through partnership and co-design. Our team works closely with networks to develop strategies that align with social obligations, net zero goals, and customer engagement requirements. Through our Business Supporters Group [JI5] and partnerships with NGOs, charities, and local authorities, we help you connect with trusted delivery partners and communities.

Policy Advocacy and Engagement

As secretariat to the All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPG) on Fuel Poverty and Energy Efficiency and its counterpart in the Welsh Senedd, National Energy Action brings deep insight into the UK’s policy landscape. We support partners in strengthening their advocacy, crafting consultation responses, and aligning with national campaigns to influence meaningful change.

Training and Capacity Building

We provide workshops and training on fuel poverty, energy efficiency, and decarbonisation strategies to help organisations build internal expertise. Our regional coordinators can also offer mentoring support, guidance on engagement techniques, and access to outreach resources such as multilingual advice materials and campaign tools.

Co-Designing and Delivering Projects

We can collaborate with your team and partners to develop projects aligned with VCMA, ED2, or NIA criteria. Our team can help shape proposals that demonstrate clear social, environmental, and innovation value, and ensure alignment with Ofgem’s governance frameworks.

Community Engagement and Outreach

We can deliver targeted outreach activities with vulnerable and hard-to-reach groups to enhance community engagement. We also provide support to test and improve real-world adoption of new energy technologies and services.

Advice, Education, and Support

Our expert team provide energy and income maximisation advice to households in or at risk of fuel poverty. We also deliver engaging education programmes on carbon monoxide safety, energy efficiency, and low-carbon heating.
