Adam has been a consumer rights campaigner for many years including at Which?, energywatch, Consumer Focus and Citizens Advice. As a consumer advocate he has been a member of numerous advisory boards and committees from civil aviation to insurance fraud. Fuel poverty and consumer vulnerability have been a focus throughout his career and Adam was appointed Chief executive at National Energy Action in December 2017.

Danni Barnes
Deputy Chief Executive
Danni leads on strategy, culture and programme development and has worked at National Energy Action for over a decade. She plays a central role in developing and implementing the charity’s strategic priorities, as well as securing its long-term sustainability to strengthen our impact and influence. Danni oversees the departments responsible for fundraising and partnerships, training and education, and regional programmes that directly support people to live in warm, healthy homes. Danni is also an experienced trustee and non-executive, bringing a strong commitment to governance, collaboration and values-driven leadership.
Peter Sumby
Director of Communities
eter has worked at National Energy Action since 1996 and is Director of Communities. He leads teams that deliver energy advice and benefits advice directly to fuel poor and vulnerable householders in England and Wales. As a member of National Energy Action's senior management team, responsible for the overall governance of the charity . Peter has specific responsibility for the delivery of our practical advice work programmes which, in partnership with the energy sector, local authorities, housing associations, the health sector and the community sector, seek to demonstrate effective and innovative ways of bringing affordable warmth to low-income households.
Peter Smith
Director of Policy and Advocacy
Peter is responsible for overseeing the charity’s policy and advocacy work; working with government, industry, the media, and other stakeholders to heighten awareness, and address the causes and impacts, of fuel poverty. Peter has helped to transform National Energy Action’s advocacy function and enhance its impact in the media, influencing senior politicians, regulators, and other opinion makers. Peter has been at National Energy Action since July 2010 and was appointed a director in 2016. Previously, Peter worked at an energy industry trade association.

Our staff
The charity now has almost 200 staff members including Energy Advisers, Project Development Co-ordinators and Managers working directly with clients and stakeholders.
Our Business and Partnership teams work with individuals and organisations to build relationships. Our Communications, Insights and Impact teams gather data and amplify the charity’s work, ensuring clients can find us for help and support, and enabling us to target our work where need is greatest and impact is most critical. All of our work is supported by our Finance, Legal and Corporate Support teams.
