Living with the Energy Crisis: Providing Advice to Vulnerable Clients

Fuel poverty is a growing challenge for many households across Great Britain, and this course is designed to equip advisors with the knowledge and confidence to offer the best possible support to vulnerable clients.

“Living with the Energy Crisis – Providing Advice to Vulnerable Clients” explores the current landscape and its impact on fuel poverty in England and Wales. The course examines which groups are most affected by recent changes and outlines practical ways to support those at risk. This includes helping people stay informed about their situation, maximise their income, access additional sources of help, and adopt effective strategies for saving energy and reducing costs.

This webinar is aimed at staff working with and providing advice to those vulnerable to the current energy crisis.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Discuss how to manage the increased cost of home energy ​​
  • Explore how householders can avoid wasting energy in the home ​​

  • Overview of the energy crisis

    • Tariffs and how they work
  • Fuel poverty and vulnerability
    • What is fuel poverty
    • Who are going to be the most vulnerable
  • Managing the increased cost of living
    • Finding the cheapest methods of paying for fuel and maximising income
    • Checking consumption through statements and meters
    • Using less energy in the home
    • Making the home more energy-efficient
  • Finding support
    • If the client is finding it difficult to pay
    • Financial help and assistance
    • External support

 

Please note that the course content will focus mainly on England and Wales. If you are based in Northern Ireland or Scotland and interested in this course, please contact trainingadmin@nea.org.uk before booking so we can discuss the main differences.

 

2.5 hours – a short comfort break will be included during the course.

 

A bite‑sized, 1‑hour version of this course is also available upon request. This shorter session is designed for individuals who are not working within the energy or advice sectors.

The course is generally delivered online via webinar but can also be delivered in-person upon request.

Webinars are delivered live by our expert tutors and designed for small groups, ensuring a high level of interaction, engaging activities, and support throughout.

We typically use Zoom for our online sessions.

To join, learners will need a device with internet access and sound capability, along with a microphone and webcam to enable full participation.

Once booked, learners should receive a confirmation of booking e-mail. Joining instructions will be sent the week before the course.

After the session, learners will receive a handout booklet summarising and reinforcing the key topics covered during the course.
