Paying for Fuel
The Paying for Fuel webinar is designed for frontline workers who have little or no prior knowledge of fuel statements, tariffs, or switching.
This course explores how households are charged for gas and electricity, the different types of tariffs available, and practical ways to reduce energy costs. Delegates will learn how to interpret fuel statements and use this information to better support householders in managing their energy usage and expenditure.

If your organisation is already a ‘go-to’ place for households experiencing difficulties with rising costs, this course will offer an introduction to useful information that will help in supporting households with energy costs, and which can complement existing advice.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
- Identify and read different types of meters
- Calculate electricity consumption and cost
- Compare different types of tariff and payment methods
- Calculate fuel statements
- Locate information related to switching energy tariff or supplier
COURSE CONTENT
- How energy is supplied in the domestic energy market
- Identifying types of meters and how to read them accurately
- Electrical appliance power ratings, consumption and running costs
- Gas and electricity tariffs and different payment methods
- Fuel statements and how these are calculated
- Additional information on statements

2.5 hours – a short comfort break will be included during the course.
The course is generally delivered online via webinar but can also be delivered in-person upon request.

We typically use Zoom for our online sessions.
To join, learners will need a device with internet access and sound capability, along with a microphone and webcam to enable full participation.
Once booked, learners should receive a confirmation of booking e-mail. Joining instructions will be sent the week before the course.

Funded places are available to non-commercial/ not for profit organisations based in England and Wales (such as local authorities, housing associations, advice agencies etc). Learners must also be frontline staff or volunteers that encounter and provide advice to those in or at risk of fuel poverty.

After the session, learners will receive a handout booklet summarising and reinforcing the key topics covered during the course.
