Supporting Consumers in the Water and Energy Sector

E-LEARNING COURSE

A National Energy Action and Waterwise e-learning course.

National Energy Action and Waterwise have worked in partnership to deliver a joint energy and water efficiency training package, with a particular focus on consumers in situations of vulnerability.

The project forms part of a wider water and energy efficiency work package bid funded by the Collaborative Fund. This fund is linked to the UK Water Strategy to 2030 and is contributed to by water companies across the UK.

The course is designed to give information and practical advice to those working with consumers who may be in fuel or water poverty, and/or situations of vulnerability, in both the energy and/or water sectors. Its main aim is to equip learners with the knowledge they need to support water and energy consumers, including identifying those who may be at risk; provide advice on how to save water and energy where possible, and signpost to external assistance from relevant organisations for both sectors.

The five key objectives are the following:

  • Explore the need to be water and energy efficient
  • Identify the causes, risks and scale of fuel and water poverty
  • Discuss what it means for a consumer to be in a situation of vulnerability
  • Explore supplier obligations and the support consumers should expect when in a situation of vulnerability
  • Identify methods in which to save both energy and water in the home to reduce costs, and where best to apply them
  • The water and energy sectors
  • Identifying situations of vulnerability and the risk factors
  • Supplier obligations and duties
  • Supporting financially vulnerable customers
  • Ways in which to save water and energy

This course will take approximately two hours to complete however each learner is different and e-learning offers the flexibility to study at your own pace. Learners will have access to the course for four weeks from their selected start date.
