Carbon Monoxide Awareness in Fuel Poor homes will support advisers providing information and advice to fuel poor homes, including marginalised and vulnerable groups.

The course is designed for those seeking to improve their knowledge of carbon monoxide awareness, making it ideal for advisers and professionals working with households at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. It also benefits anyone looking to learn more about minimising the associated risks.

The aim of this course is to equip learners with the ability to recognise the carbon monoxide risks that are associated with fuel poor homes, and how to minimise the danger through various safety measures. It will link ill health with fuel poverty and explore ways to support vulnerable households.

  • Identify the causes of and problems associated with fuel poverty
  • Explain the link between fuel poor homes and ill health, both physical and mental
  • Explain the prevalence of carbon monoxide in fuel poor homes and its impacts
  • Discuss methods of minimising carbon monoxide in the home, in addition to alleviating symptoms of fuel poverty
  • Conclude with sources of financial and other support, including a focus on the Priority Services Register
  • Introduction to fuel poverty
  • Health impacts of fuel poverty, including physical, mental and carbon monoxide health risks
  • Carbon monoxide origins, symptoms and ways in which to spot CO
  • Tackling fuel poverty
  • Reducing the risks of carbon monoxide poisoning
