Helping fuel-poor households for over 40 years

Awareness, Support, Change

What we do

We believe everyone deserves to live in a warm, healthy home

National Energy Action (NEA) is the national fuel poverty charity. We’ve worked across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland for over 40 years, to ensure that everyone can afford to live in a warm, healthy home.

Together with frontline practitioners, companies, regulators and governments, National Energy Action works to support vulnerable clients, raise awareness and achieve enduring change.

Fuel Poverty Awareness: Shine a light on the crisis

Awareness

National Energy Action works to raise awareness of fuel poverty through engagement with elected representatives, through our training and education programmes and through the media.

Every year we hold dozens of events, train thousands of people who, in turn, share their knowledge, and appear in many of thousands of media articles.

Support

Every year, we support tens of thousands of people living in fuel poverty.

If you or someone you know can’t afford to heat their home then we’re here to give energy help – we offer a range of advice and support both directly to people in need, and via frontline workers and other intermediaries.

We hold regular community events and offer direct support via our Energy Advice and Support Service. We have dozens of advice leaflets that can be read in over 160 languages and adapted for neurodiversities.

How we make a difference

Through fundraising, donations, our Business Supporters Group and partnerships we help those in greatest need.

Change

Lasting, structural change is essential if we are to reduce the hardship caused by fuel poverty and improve the lives of millions of households across the UK.

We work towards this change primarily through our policy activity, collaborating with governments, parliaments, regulators, businesses and civil society to help shape decisions that better support those most affected.

Our advocacy is informed by our direct work with individuals, ensuring that lived experience is at the heart of our approach and helps drive change at scale.

We strongly believe that meaningful progress comes from integrating our practical support with our policy work, so that the insights gained from helping thousands of people today can lead to a fairer system for millions tomorrow.
